This artisan tempeh is made using Krombek bean, one of the few Dutch white bean varieties left in The Netherlands. The Krombek bean usually grows in Kop Van Noord-Holland and it consists in a creamy white bean in a kidney shape with a wonderful soft taste. Fermentation brings the creamy texture out nicely, giving also a salty note.

This artisan tempeh is gluten free. Celiac and gluten intolerant people can enjoy it safely.

How to Use

Although the Krombek tempeh is delicious as it is, you can experiment different ways to cook and eat it. Take note!

  • Marinating:
    • Cut the tempeh into desired shapes (slices, cubes, or strips).
    • Marinate in your favourite sauce or marinade (soy sauce, teriyaki, barbecue, etc.) for at least 30 minutes to absorb flavours.
    • Grill, bake, or pan-fry until it takes a golden brown appearance.
  • Stir-Frying:
    • Cube the tempeh and stir-fry with vegetables for a quick and easy dish.
    • Use it in place of meat in stir-fries with your favourite sauces.
  • Crumble for Tacos or Burritos:
    • Crumble the tempeh and cook it with taco seasoning for a plant-based taco or burrito filling.
  • Sandwiches and Wraps:
    • Slice the tempeh thinly and use it as a sandwich or wrap filling.
    • Pan-fry or bake the slices for a crispy texture.
  • Salads:
    • Cube the tempeh and toss it into salads for added protein.
    • You can use it raw or cook it beforehand.
  • Soups and Stews:
    • Add cubed or crumbled tempeh to soups and stews for a hearty and protein-rich addition.
  • Grilling or BBQ:
    • Marinate the tempeh and grill it for a smoky flavor.
    • Brush with barbecue sauce for a delicious barbecue-style dish.
  • Tempeh Bacon:
    • Slice the tempeh thinly, marinate in a smoky, savoury mixture, and pan-fry until crispy for a bacon substitute.
  • Curries:
    • Add the tempeh to your favourite curry dishes for added texture and protein.
    • Cube the tempeh and cook it in the curry sauce until heated through.
  • Baked Dishes:
    • Cube or crumble the tempeh and use it in casseroles, lasagnas, or baked pasta dishes.

Storage in freezer up to 3 months or in fridge up tp 1 week.
